Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway

The most popular route through the Sandhills is Nebraska Highway 2, deemed the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway. This byway is rated in the top 10 scenic routes in the U.S. and is listed as one of the highways to drive in 1000 Places to See Before You Die.

Bridges to Buttes Scenic Byway

Hwy 20
Bridges to Buttes Scenic Byway cuts a 200 mile long path near the northern border of Western Nebraska, from Valentine to the Wyoming border beyond Harrison.  It's wide open country, dotted with world class surprises.

Gold Rush Scenic Byway

Hwy 385
The Nebraska portion of U.S. Highway 385 is called the Gold Rush Byway. Along the Colorado/South Dakota state lines, the highway connects Sidney with Bridgeport, Alliance and Chadron. It follows the old trail most of the way and rolls through some of the most spectacular country in Nebraska.

The Lincoln HIghway (US HWY 30) was the United States' first transcontinental highway and cuts through the heart of Western Nebraska's Wild West region. The highway traces historic routes followed first by Native Americans and also sections of the Mormon Trail and the Oregon Trail.

The Western Trails Scenic Byway starts in Ogallala and runs northwest along US Highway 26 to the Wyoming border. This byway is only 144 miles long, but full of memorable opportunities for the whole family.
